Women’s Political Campaign Management Training

Women’s Political Leadership & Campaign Capacity-Building (2011–Present) Since 2011, WDN Albania has implemented a continuous programme aimed at strengthening the political participation and leadership of women at local and national levels. Through a comprehensive capacity-building approach, WDN Albania has supported women candidates and elected representatives—including candidates for Parliament, Mayors, and Municipal Council Members—by equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to effectively compete in elections and contribute to decision-making processes. The programme combines training, mentoring, and hands-on support, covering key areas such as: campaign planning and strategic management voter outreach and constituency engagement public speaking and political communication media relations and digital campaigning fundraising and resource mobilization leadership development and negotiation skills Over the years, WDN Albania has worked with women from across the political spectrum and from different regions of the country, promoting inclusive participation and cross-party collaboration. Impact: The programme has contributed to strengthening women’s representation in political processes, increasing the number of women candidates at both local and national levels, and enhancing their effectiveness as elected officials. Many participants have successfully run competitive campaigns, assumed leadership roles within their parties, and actively contributed to policymaking and governance.

Gender in PolicyMaking

Gender Mainstreaming & Gender-Responsive Policymaking Programme WDN Albania has implemented a sustained programme aimed at strengthening the integration of gender perspectives into policymaking and governance processes at both local and national levels. Through a combination of capacity-building, technical support, and policy dialogue, the programme works with public officials, local government representatives, and civil society actors to promote gender-responsive and inclusive governance. The programme focuses on: integrating gender analysis into public policy design and implementation promoting gender-responsive budgeting practices strengthening inclusive and participatory decision-making processes supporting the application of national and international gender equality frameworks enhancing monitoring and evaluation of gender-sensitive policies WDN Albania applies participatory and practice-oriented methodologies, combining training, mentoring, and real-case analysis to ensure practical application of knowledge in institutional settings. Impact: The programme has contributed to strengthening institutional capacities to develop and implement gender-responsive policies, improving alignment with gender equality standards, and fostering a more inclusive approach to governance. It has also supported increased awareness and commitment among policymakers to address gender inequalities through concrete policy measures.

Emergency Support for Women Farmers during COVID-19

Women’s Economic Resilience in Agriculture Programme (COVID-19 Response) WDN Albania implemented a targeted intervention to support women in agriculture in rural areas of Tirana, addressing the socio-economic challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The programme, supported by United Nations Development Programme, focused on strengthening the resilience of women farmers by providing immediate assistance while promoting sustainable livelihoods and local economic recovery. Key interventions included: distribution of agricultural inputs such as seeds, seedlings, and farming tools direct support to women farmers to sustain and expand production community outreach and engagement to identify needs and ensure inclusive support WDN Albania applied a community-based and needs-driven approach, working closely with local women to ensure that support measures were practical, timely, and responsive to real challenges on the ground. Impact: The programme contributed to stabilizing and strengthening the livelihoods of women farmers during a period of crisis, supporting local food production and enhancing economic resilience. It also reinforced the role of women in local economies and increased their capacity to cope with future socio-economic shocks.
2018 - 2019

Generation Democracy

Generation Democracy – National Youth Engagement Programme WDN Albania implemented Generation Democracy, a national-level programme aimed at strengthening youth participation in democratic processes, promoting peacebuilding, and fostering active citizenship across Albania. As part of the programme, WDN Albania organized a national youth summit bringing together young people from diverse regions to create a platform for dialogue, collaboration, and exchange on key democratic and societal issues. The initiative focused on: strengthening youth participation in democratic and decision-making processes promoting peacebuilding and social cohesion encouraging civic engagement and active citizenship developing leadership skills among young people fostering inclusion and dialogue among diverse youth groups The programme applied participatory and interactive methodologies, enabling young participants to engage directly with experts, institutions, and peers, while contributing their perspectives to discussions on democratic development. Impact: Generation Democracy contributed to increased youth engagement in democratic life, strengthened networks and collaboration among young people, and empowered participants to take on active roles within their communities. It also reinforced the role of youth as key actors in promoting democratic values, inclusion, and social cohesion in Albania. Impact: strengthened youth engagement in democratic processes, fostered dialogue and collaboration, and empowered young people as drivers of positive change in their communities.
2011-2020

She Leads Academy

Women’s Leadership Academy & She Leads Programme (2010–Present) WDN Albania initiated its work on women’s political empowerment through the Women’s Leadership Academy (2010–2012), implemented with support from United States Agency for International Development (CEEPS Fund). The Academy was designed to strengthen the leadership capacities of women engaged in politics and public life, with a strong focus on integrating gender perspectives into policymaking at both local and national levels. Building on its success and impact, the programme evolved over time into a broader and more inclusive initiative targeting young women leaders across the political spectrum, later developed into the She Leads Programme. The programme focused on: gender analysis in public policy and decision-making gender-responsive budgeting and governance inclusive and participatory policymaking processes monitoring and evaluation of gender-sensitive policies leadership development and political engagement WDN Albania applied a practical and participatory approach, combining training, mentoring, and peer exchange to ensure that participants could effectively apply knowledge in real political and institutional contexts. Impact: The programme has contributed to strengthening a generation of women leaders in Albania, enhancing their capacity to design and implement inclusive policies, and promoting gender equality within political processes and institutions. It has also supported the transition of women from emerging leaders to active candidates and decision-makers at local and national levels.

Development of Sustainable Tourism

Sustainable Tourism & Local Economic Development Programme – Roskovec WDN Albania implemented a targeted initiative to promote tourism as a driver of sustainable local economic development in the Municipality of Roskovec. The programme aimed to strengthen local capacities, enhance community participation, and unlock the tourism potential of the area by supporting inclusive and sustainable development models. The intervention focused on: capacity-building for local stakeholders, including community members and local actors promotion and visibility of local tourism assets and opportunities community engagement to foster ownership and participation in local development processes. WDN Albania applied a participatory and locally driven approach, working closely with community members and stakeholders to ensure that tourism development reflects local needs, resources, and identity. Impact: The programme contributed to strengthening local capacities for tourism development, increasing the visibility of Roskovec’s tourism potential, and fostering cooperation among local stakeholders. It also supported the creation of more sustainable and inclusive economic opportunities at the local level.
